Pandion haliaetus

Trail Tidbits

The osprey is sometimes called a fish hawk, because it only eats fish.

They build large nests on tops of tall trees and power line towers near water.

 Females are larger than males.

They live near large rivers, lakes and coastal areas.

When hunting, they fly over the water and with their sharp eyesight, find a fish near the surface and quickly dive with needle-sharp, outstretched talons to catch it.
