In Georgia, black bears are found in swampy areas and in mountain areas, and sometimes in between.
Bears are omnivorous- they eat plant type food and meat including green leaves, grass, berries, fruits, melons, acorns, pecans, peanuts, insects, and some dead animals.
They don't truly hibernate in the winter, but do sleep a lot more and eat less than usual until spring arrives.
Adult black bears weigh 300 pounds or more while newborns only weigh a half pound!
